Join an urban recipe food Co-op

What is an Urban Recipe
Food Co-op?

Equitable Distribution

Members receive food based on family size, and enough to help supplement their households for two weeks.

Community Support

Co-ops provide a supportive community that values dignity and mutual assistance.

Active Participation

Members contribute to their co-op’s success by taking on responsibilities like unloading and distributing food at each meeting.

In Need

Co-op members all share the need for food support. Members only need to make a statement of need, and they are welcome to join a co-op for as long as they need support.

Housed

Co-op members receive frozen and uncooked food, and therefore need a place to store it and cook it. All of our co-op members are housed with access to a kitchen.

Mobile

Part of being in co-op means showing up, which requires all members have access to reliable transportation – be that car, bus, bike or foot – to get to and from co-op meetings.

Dedicated

Co-op members commit to being part of the food co-op. This includes volunteering at co-op meetings, communicating regularly with their leadership, arriving on time and helping their neighbors, and uplifting the dignity of everyone in the co-op.

“I am in a stable place for food thanks to co-ops. I have been able to leave co-op and make space for someone else because it got me back on my feet. I’m so grateful to everyone at Urban Recipe.”

How much food will I receive?

You will receive food based on family size, and enough to help supplement your household for two weeks.

What type of food will I receive?

At each food co-op meeting, you may receive a variety of shelf-stable goods, frozen food, and when available, meat, produce and household items. Availability may vary, but our aim is to provide a well-rounded selection that supports diverse needs.

Do we meet at the same time and location every two weeks?

Yes. Once you are a member of a food co-op, you will continue to meet at that co-op’s same designated meeting location and time every two weeks.

I don’t need food, but I want to volunteer at a co-op. How can I do that?

Out of respect for our co-op members, we do not allow non-co-op members to volunteer. If you’re interested in volunteering that directly impacts co-ops, you can sign up to support at Pallet Prep. Sign Up Here.

I would like to support food co-ops. What can I do?

Our co-ops run thanks to the generous support of donors. Learn more about how you can contribute here.
