Starting out the new year is always an exciting time of fresh goals and new beginnings. Everyone wants to go above and beyond for themselves and for their community. For an organization that has been around since 1991, we still like to take this opportunity to evaluate how we can better live our mission of promoting food security and dignity through intentionally designed community-driven food cooperatives.
At Urban Recipe, we aim to be a catalyst for a world where food security, equitable food access, and self-sufficient communities are guaranteed for all. But what does that look like daily?
While the Board of Trustees continues to fine tune our Strategic Plan, the staff at Urban Recipe has each made their own resolution for 2025.
Our Resolutions:
“My 2025 resolution is to identify new partners and help them experience first hand the power of the Urban Recipe co-op and its effect on creating food secure families and building relationships among co-op members!” – Jeremy, Executive Director
“In 2025, I aim to better recognize and celebrate our donors and supporters, and those who make Urban Recipe possible.” – Manda, Director of Development
“My resolution is to deepen my relationships with co-op members, by celebrating their contributions and learning more about their unique stories.” -Jamillah, Program Director
“My new year resolution in 2025 as a new staff member at Urban Recipe is to visit all of our co-ops and learn what makes each of them special. Although our model to promote food security through active participation and dignity affirmation remains the same across co-ops, they are all unique in their coordination style, history, meeting sites, community relationships, and more. Visiting co-ops to witness steering committees lead conversations about desired changes for their co-op, to enjoy lighthearted banter after a full work day, to observe skilled problem solving to improve the process of distribution… I want to continue to witness and share stories like these across all of our co-ops!” – Reed, Program Manager
“I want to better tell the story of Urban Recipe. We have been around for over 30 years in Atlanta and I want everyone in this city to know about the food co-op model and the ways they can get involved to serve their community. From our hundreds of volunteers who come into the warehouse, our mobile pantry partners who work hard to serve their communities, to our neighbors in need of support, I want everyone to be able to understand and participate in our recipe for food security.” -Kathleen, Communications and Project Coordinator
“My resolution is to deliver the best products to the community that we serve in a timely manner. I want to focus on streamlining our processes and inventory management. As a manager, I want to foster a culture of continuous improvement among the staff, starting with myself. I believe that with our collective efforts, we can create a more efficient operation that benefits everyone, setting an even higher standard for excellence at Urban Recipe.” – Anthony, Operations Manager
“My resolution is to help brainstorm and find creative ways to care for the sick and homebound who have had to leave co-ops. I’d like to encourage co-op members to continue to care for their neighbors and help those in need, in and outside of the co-op. I want to be a coordinator who just wants to know and learn from the members’ experiences, and to become more involved in my work.” – Juicey, Co-op Coordinator
Join us!
We’d love it if you would join us in our resolutions to better serve our community this year!
- Do something every day for someone else.
- Commit to spending some time and resources every month fighting food insecurity in your community.
- If you are a donor, consider becoming a monthly donor, stretching that support a little further.
- If you are a volunteer, consider also making a financial contribution to the mission.
- If you are a co-op member, commit to fully participating in your co-op and trying to deepen your relationships.
- If you are new here, welcome! We invite you to make a resolution to get involved with Urban Recipe in some way in the coming year. Some ideas: donate, volunteer, learn more through our website, share a post on social media.
We are excited to begin our resolutions and make 2025 the best year yet!
